Celebi is the Time Travel Pokémon, a dual Psychic and Grass type that first appeared in the second generation of the Pokémon world. It is a tiny, sprite-like creature, barely reaching the height of a young child's knee, with a compact rounded body clothed in soft green skin. Its head is large relative to its body and is crowned with a pair of slender antennae that curve gently outward from the top of the skull. Two wide, dark eyes dominate its face, lending it an expression of calm and serene watchfulness. From its back extend a pair of translucent wings tinged with a faint iridescent blue, which allow it to hover and drift through the air with easy, unhurried grace. Its hands and feet are small and rounded, and its overall silhouette recalls the image of a forest spirit more than any conventional animal, which reflects the true nature of what this creature actually is.
Celebi inhabits ancient, undisturbed forests where the trees are centuries old and the ecosystem remains intact and thriving. It is strongly drawn to places of deep ecological health, and wherever it appears, grass grows thick and vegetation rises with unusual vigor. Because Celebi can travel freely through time, its range is not confined to any single region or era. Folk records from many corners of the Pokémon world describe brief appearances of a small green figure flickering among the trees, always in forests that remain lush and robust for years afterward. Celebi is wholly solitary, and encounters with it under ordinary circumstances are extraordinarily rare. It does not patrol a fixed territory the way most Pokémon do but instead drifts between different moments in time, drawn instinctively toward forests that have need of its quiet protective influence. No reliable pattern of daily activity or directional movement has ever been consistently documented.
Celebi draws sustenance from the ambient life energy of healthy woodland, nourishing itself on sunlight filtered through the canopy and on the deep vitality of old, well-rooted trees. By nature it is gentle and entirely non-aggressive, approaching both humans and other Pokémon with an open, almost childlike curiosity. Researchers who have glimpsed it in the field consistently report a quality of warmth and stillness settling over the surrounding area wherever Celebi lingers. Folk tradition in the forested regions of Johto and beyond holds that Celebi's arrival is a blessing upon the land, and that harm done to a forest it has graced brings misfortune to those responsible. It does not reproduce in any conventional sense and exhibits neither nesting behavior nor territorial instincts. Some researchers propose that instances of Celebi originating from different moments in time may occasionally converge in the same location, which would account for the rare reports of more than one sighting occurring within a very short span.
Celebi carries a single ability called Natural Cure, which allows it to shed any major status ailment the instant it withdraws from direct confrontation. Poison, sleep, paralysis, burn, and freeze all clear completely the moment it steps back, making status-based strategies unreliable against it over the course of a longer engagement. Its Psychic typing enables powerful attacks that are especially effective against Fighting and Poison type opponents, while its Grass typing applies strong offensive pressure to Water, Ground, and Rock types. However, the combination of Psychic and Grass creates a notably wide spread of defensive vulnerabilities, and Bug, Ghost, Dark, Flying, Poison, Fire, and Ice type attacks all strike it with heightened force. What most distinguishes Celebi in battle is the extraordinary symmetry of its capabilities: it possesses no single dominant strength but rather a perfect and equal balance of endurance, offensive power, and speed across every dimension. This makes it adaptable to many roles within a team, though it demands thoughtful, deliberate handling precisely because it has no overwhelming attribute to fall back on.
Celebi belongs to no evolutionary line and neither evolves from a prior form nor develops into any subsequent one. As a Mythical Pokémon it does not reproduce through conventional means, existing as a singular, self-contained species at every point in its life. It occupies the final entry of the second-generation Pokédex, a position that mirrors the role of Mew at the close of the first generation and carries similar symbolic weight as the crowning mystery of its era. Researchers regard Celebi as one of the most significant subjects of ongoing study in the Pokémon world, not only because its mastery of time defies every known biological framework but because its presence demonstrably accelerates the vitality of the ecosystems it inhabits. Forests it has visited show growth and recovery rates that cannot be accounted for by ordinary ecological processes alone. For trainers and scientists alike, encountering Celebi remains one of the rarest and most meaningful events the field has to offer, a quiet reminder that some Pokémon stand entirely apart from explanation.
