ENTRY

Machoke is a Fighting-type Pokémon introduced in the first generation, classified as the Superpower Pokémon. It presents a striking humanoid silhouette, standing roughly the height of a tall adult human but carrying a physique that far exceeds any ordinary person in sheer muscle mass. Its skin is gray-blue across the upper body, transitioning to a deep reddish-purple across the legs and lower torso, giving it a distinctive two-toned appearance. Thick, prominent muscles define its arms, chest, and shoulders, and two short ridges protrude from the crown of its head like a crest. The most immediately recognizable feature Machoke carries is the wide black belt fastened around its waist, a power save belt that the species is known to wear at all times. Without this restraint, Machoke's raw muscular force would be too great for it to govern its own movements with any precision.

Machoke makes its home in mountainous regions, favoring rugged terrain with steep slopes, rocky outcroppings, and high-altitude passes. It has been documented across several regions, from the mountain ranges of Kanto to highland zones in Johto and beyond. Population density tends to be moderate, as Machoke is not a solitary creature, and small groups often share a territory on the same mountain face. They are typically active during daylight hours, taking advantage of clear sightlines across open rocky terrain. While they do not formally migrate, individual Machoke have been observed descending to lower elevations during harsh winters, and some have been reported near human settlements where they occasionally assist with heavy labor, apparently drawn to tasks that demand raw physical effort.

Despite an appearance that can be intimidating, wild Machoke are not inherently aggressive toward humans and tend to display a notable sense of fair play, reserving their full strength for genuine physical challenges. Within their social groups, disputes over territory or hierarchy are typically resolved through arm-wrestling contests or structured physical trials rather than extended confrontations. Machoke are omnivores with a strong preference for high-protein foods, and wild berries, roots, mountain stream fish, and small prey all form part of their regular diet, with large quantities consumed to sustain their extraordinary muscle mass. Field researchers have repeatedly noted that Machoke living near human communities sometimes voluntarily help with construction work or heavy lifting, apparently finding that labor both satisfying and useful for maintaining their conditioning.

In combat, Machoke is a physically oriented fighter with strong offensive output and reasonable durability. Its primary ability, Guts, turns adversity into an advantage: when Machoke is burdened with a status ailment such as a burn, poison, or paralysis, its physical attack strength rises substantially, making it counterproductive for opponents to rely on status conditions as a strategy. Its second ability, No Guard, ensures that every move Machoke uses will connect without fail, and equally that every attack aimed at it will land. This creates a high-risk, high-reward dynamic best paired with powerful moves that carry imperfect accuracy under normal conditions. The hidden ability Steadfast causes Machoke's speed to climb whenever it flinches from an opponent's attack. As a pure Fighting type, Machoke strikes Normal, Rock, Steel, Ice, and Dark types with notable effectiveness, while its vulnerability to Flying, Psychic, and Fairy-type moves demands careful positioning against common Psychic-type opponents.

Machoke occupies the middle stage of a three-part evolutionary line. It evolves from Machop through experience in battle, and it can evolve further into the four-armed Machamp through trade, a mechanic tied in Pokémon lore to the surge of energy that a trade generates, said to catalyze the final physical transformation. This trade requirement makes Machamp comparatively harder to obtain than most fully evolved Pokémon, lending the line a certain prestige among trainers. Within the broader Pokédex, Machoke stands as one of the earliest humanoid Pokémon built explicitly around the concept of disciplined physical training, and it serves as an early template for the many Fighting-type humanoids that appear in later generations. Researchers remain particularly fascinated by its power save belt, one of the rare documented cases of a wild Pokémon voluntarily wearing a device to restrain its own capabilities, a behavior that continues to prompt discussion about the degree of self-awareness present in this species.
