Blissey is the Happiness Pokémon, a pure Normal-type first introduced in the second generation. It stands just below the height of an average adult human, its body rounded and egg-shaped, covered almost entirely in soft pink. Despite the spherical torso, its silhouette is unmistakably humanoid, with short stubby arms and small legs that carry its considerable bulk in a gentle waddling gait. A voluminous ruff of white, curled fur rings the neck and chest, giving it an immediately warm and nurturing presence. Its head bears a small spiral of cream-colored hair above large, deeply gentle eyes. Most characteristic of all is the white egg nestled in the pouch along its belly, an egg reputed to carry remarkable emotional properties for anyone who consumes it.
Blissey gravitates strongly toward human settlements, making urban and suburban environments its primary range. It appears most often in cities, towns, hospital grounds, and anywhere people congregate, reflecting the species' enduring connection to human society. Within the Johto and Kanto regions especially, it has been documented near parks and caretaking facilities. Its numbers thin considerably outside these zones, and it rarely ventures into dense wilderness or remote terrain. Blissey is not migratory, preferring to maintain an established home territory, and it is active during daylight hours. It tends to be social, often moving alongside others of its line, but does not form tight herds. It remains within easy reach of the communities it has chosen to inhabit.
Blissey is defined above all else by an instinct to comfort those around it. When it senses distress in another creature, it approaches immediately and offers its egg, which tradition holds will bring calm and goodwill to whoever accepts it. This instinct extends equally to Pokémon and to humans, making Blissey a valued presence in Pokémon Centers and medical settings worldwide. It sustains itself on soft berries and plant matter, though it devotes surprisingly little attention to its own feeding. It communicates through gentle vocalizations and expressive movement and is rarely aggressive even when threatened. When danger approaches, it is far more likely to emit a dazzling flash or attempt to soften the threat than to escalate. Trainers consistently report that extended time near Blissey has a measurable and calming effect.
In battle, Blissey occupies the role of a deeply resilient special wall. Its Natural Cure ability allows it to shed status conditions simply by withdrawing from the field, making it difficult to incapacitate through poison, paralysis, or burns over time. The alternate standard ability, Serene Grace, doubles the probability of a move's secondary effects triggering, so a technique that might occasionally inflict paralysis or cause a flinch will do so far more reliably, adding real disruption to Blissey's patient approach. The hidden ability known as Healer shifts focus toward the team, granting a meaningful chance each turn to cure a neighboring ally of any status ailment, reinforcing Blissey's identity as a caretaker in combat. Offensively it presents little threat, as its physical strength is negligible and it relies on special techniques and utility moves rather than raw damage. Its extraordinary stamina makes it difficult to knock out, especially against special attackers. Fighting-type moves are its clearest vulnerability, cutting through its endurance with unusual efficiency. Trainers who field Blissey build primarily around its capacity for sustained support.
Blissey is the final form in a three-stage evolutionary line beginning with Happiny and progressing through Chansey. Happiny, a small fragile pink Pokémon that carries a smooth white stone to mimic an egg, evolves into Chansey when it levels up while holding an Oval Stone during the day. Chansey then transforms into Blissey through a deepening bond with its trainer, specifically when its friendship reaches a sufficiently high level as it gains experience. This friendship-based evolution reflects the line's central theme of growth through care rather than combat. Among researchers, Blissey holds a recognized distinction as the non-legendary species with the greatest base stamina of any yet catalogued, a trait that has made it a cornerstone of defensive strategy since its introduction. Scientists remain particularly intrigued by the biological properties of the egg it carries, whose documented mood-altering qualities have not been fully explained. For trainers, breeders, and Pokémon Center staff alike, Blissey represents a form of strength measured through compassion.
