ENTRY

Farfetch'd is the Wild Duck Pokémon, a Normal and Flying type introduced in the first generation of Pokémon games originating from the Kanto region. It stands at roughly the height of a young child's knee, presenting a compact, rounded body covered in brown and cream feathers with a distinctive pale face framed by a sweeping brown crest. Its most immediately recognizable feature is the long green stalk it carries at all times, a thick sprig of leek held firmly in one wing and never willingly relinquished. The combination of its waddling gait, alert black eyes, and ever-present vegetable companion gives Farfetch'd an appearance that is at once comical and strangely dignified.

In the wild, Farfetch'd inhabits grassy plains and meadows, particularly those near bodies of fresh water where the plants it relies upon grow in abundance. It is most commonly encountered in the temperate grasslands of Kanto, though sightings have been documented in open fields and light woodland edges across various regions. Farfetch'd tends to live a solitary life, establishing loose territories centered on patches of tall grass and water. It is not a migratory species, preferring to remain within a familiar range year-round. Because it has historically been hunted both for its meat and for the flavorful leek stalk it carries, wild populations have become notably sparse, making an encounter with one in open grassland a genuinely rare event for most trainers.

Farfetch'd is an omnivorous Pokémon that spends the majority of its waking hours foraging. It uses its leek stalk not only as a weapon but also as a tool for probing the ground and stirring up insects, seeds, and aquatic vegetation. The stalk is replenished when it wears down, as Farfetch'd instinctively seeks out fresh leek plants growing nearby. Despite its mild appearance, Farfetch'd is fiercely protective of its leek and will challenge anything it perceives as a threat to the stalk with surprising aggression. Field researchers note that losing the leek causes the Pokémon visible distress, and a Farfetch'd separated from its sprig will prioritize finding a replacement over nearly any other activity. Outside of territorial disputes and the defense of its prized possession, Farfetch'd is a calm and relatively approachable wild Pokémon.

In battle, Farfetch'd leans heavily on its physical attack, which is its most developed stat, giving it respectable striking power for a species so modestly regarded. Its standard ability, Keen Eye, prevents opponents from lowering its accuracy, ensuring that moves connect reliably regardless of the opponent's attempts at disruption. Its second standard ability, Inner Focus, prevents it from flinching when struck, allowing it to act without hesitation even under pressure. Its hidden ability, Defiant, is considerably more aggressive in effect, sharply raising its attack stat whenever an opponent lowers any of its statistics, which punishes debuffing strategies and discourages intimidation tactics outright. As a Normal and Flying type, Farfetch'd is immune to Ground and Ghost type moves and takes neutral damage from most common attack types, though it carries a weakness to Electric, Ice, and Rock moves. Its modest speed means it will rarely act first in a competitive exchange, and its defenses are not especially durable, so it performs best when it can strike quickly and decisively rather than absorbing sustained punishment.

Farfetch'd does not evolve in its Kantonian form, standing as one of a small number of single-stage species introduced in the original games. However, a regional variant discovered in Galar carries a considerably larger and heavier leek, and through exceptional performance in battle, specifically by landing a series of critical hits during a single encounter, that Galarian form evolves into the noble Sirfetch'd. The Kantonian Farfetch'd itself occupies a unique place in Pokémon research and trainer culture as one of the earliest species documented to be at risk from overharvesting. Its story prompted early discussions within the Pokémon world about sustainable interaction with wild species, and it remains a symbol of how human activity can affect even relatively common wild populations. Researchers continue to study Farfetch'd as a case study in population recovery, while trainers who raise one find in it a tenacious and surprisingly capable partner despite its unassuming reputation.
