Furret is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in the second generation of the main series. Known as the Long Body Pokémon, it presents a highly distinctive silhouette — an extremely elongated, sinuous form that resembles a large ferret in overall build. Its body is covered in smooth brown fur with alternating cream-coloured rings that run along its full length, giving it a banded appearance. The face is small and rounded, with large dark eyes and a cream-coloured mask across the lower cheeks and chin. Despite generous reserves of stamina, its torso is remarkably slender, supported by four short, nimble legs. An adult Furret stands no more than knee-height to a grown human yet can stretch to lengths that dwarf its own modest height, making the disproportion between its length and its width one of its most immediately recognisable traits.
Furret is native to the Johto region, where it is found most reliably across open grasslands and the gently rolling routes that connect the region's towns and cities. It favours areas where tall grasses meet softer earth, as that combination allows for easy burrowing alongside ample cover from threats. Population density tends to be highest along the corridors between Goldenrod City and Ecruteak City, where maintained farmland and wild meadows sit side by side. Furret is not strongly migratory; it inhabits a relatively fixed home range through all seasons and tolerates mild, temperate climates well. It is most active during the early morning and late afternoon, retreating to its nest around midday and again at night. Though individuals generally range alone while foraging, Furret is not strictly solitary and will tolerate the presence of neighbours when territories overlap.
True to its species name, Furret invests considerable effort in excavating and refining its nest. The burrow follows the same long, narrow profile as its own body, forming a passage no wider than itself and effectively barring entry to virtually every other Pokémon. Field researchers note that Furret lines the interior with dry grasses and soft leaves, returning to renovate the space between foraging trips. Its diet is opportunistic: it feeds on berries, seeds, and small insects, and will occasionally pursue smaller prey when the opportunity arises. Furret is quick to flee when cornered but is generally non-confrontational, preferring to sprint away from threats rather than engage them. Trainers who work with Furret describe it as affectionate once trust is established, with a tendency to drape itself across a person's shoulders in a manner that exploits its long, pliable body to quietly charming effect.
In battle, Furret can carry one of two standard abilities or a third hidden one. Run Away guarantees a successful retreat from any wild encounter, a practical benefit for trainers who need to disengage without risk of failure. Keen Eye prevents opponents from lowering Furret's accuracy through moves or abilities that would otherwise cloud its aim, helping it land attacks with reliable consistency throughout a fight. Frisk, the hidden ability, reveals the held item of any opponent the moment Furret steps onto the field, handing the trainer immediate knowledge of the opposing side's tools before a single move is exchanged. As a pure Normal-type, Furret's Normal moves are resisted by Rock and Steel opponents and fail entirely against Ghost types, though in return Furret is itself completely immune to Ghost-type attacks. Its sole type vulnerability is to Fighting moves, which strike it for double damage. With its ninety-point speed it outpaces a wide range of opponents at its competitive tier and leans toward physical offense, using priority moves like Quick Attack alongside coverage options to compensate for its limited special power.
Furret occupies the second and final stage of a two-member evolutionary line. It evolves from Sentret, a smaller, upright Normal-type known for balancing on its tail to scout the surrounding terrain. Sentret reaches this evolved form beginning at level fifteen, making Furret one of the earliest permanent evolutions a trainer can obtain in a Johto playthrough. Furret does not evolve further and represents the terminal stage of its family. Within the broader Pokédex it fills a role analogous to Raticate or Linoone as the mature representative of a regional early-route Normal-type family. Researchers studying Furret are drawn to the biomechanics of its elongated musculature, which allows it to generate quick bursts of acceleration despite a seemingly unwieldy body plan. For trainers, it represents a fast and physically capable companion obtainable very early in the Johto journey, and its unmistakable silhouette continues to make it one of the more fondly recognised designs of the second generation.
