ENTRY

Ivysaur is the Seed Pokémon, a dual Grass and Poison type that originates from the first generation of Pokémon. It is a quadrupedal creature standing roughly knee-height on a typical adult human, though its broad, low-slung body gives it a sturdy and grounded appearance. Its hide is a deep teal-green, and its face carries the same wide-set red eyes and blunt, rounded snout as its pre-evolution, though the features have grown more defined and purposeful with age. The most immediately striking characteristic of Ivysaur is the large floral bud that has emerged from the bulb it bore as a Bulbasaur. That bud rests heavily across its back, anchored to its body by a network of thick, dark green vines that wrap firmly around the torso. The weight of this structure is considerable enough that Ivysaur can no longer rear up on its hind legs with ease, and it moves through the world in a steady, permanent four-legged stance.

Ivysaur is most commonly found in warm grasslands and open meadows where direct sunlight reaches the ground consistently throughout the day. These environments allow the bud on its back to absorb solar energy, which drives both its growth and its overall vitality. It is particularly prevalent in temperate regions, and trainers exploring routes through grassland biomes in areas like Kanto report encountering it near tall grass at the forest edge, where sunlight and shade are both accessible within short distance. Ivysaur is not a highly territorial creature, and small groups of them can sometimes be found grazing together in open fields, though they are more often encountered alone or in the company of a trusted trainer. They tend to be most active during daylight hours, retreating to sheltered spots beneath dense vegetation at night to protect the sensitive bud from cold and excess moisture.

Ivysaur is a herbivore, sustaining itself primarily through sunlight, water, and minerals absorbed from the soil. The bud on its back plays a central role in photosynthesis, and on particularly sunny days Ivysaur will seek out open ground and remain motionless for extended periods, angling its body to maximise the bud's exposure to light. Field researchers note that the bud releases a faint, pleasant fragrance when it is receiving sufficient sunlight, a behaviour trainers commonly interpret as a sign of good health and contentment. Toward humans, Ivysaur tends to be calm and cooperative, though it adopts a noticeably more alert and defensive posture when it senses a potential threat. It communicates through low vocalisations and subtle movements of its vines, which can extend and retract with surprising speed and precision when the situation demands it.

Ivysaur carries two potential abilities that shape how it functions in battle. Its primary ability, Overgrow, causes its Grass-type moves to strike significantly harder when Ivysaur is running low on health, providing a reliable surge of offensive power in desperate situations. Its hidden ability, Chlorophyll, doubles its movement speed during periods of strong sunlight, transforming what is otherwise a measured and deliberate pace into a genuine threat. As a Grass and Poison type, Ivysaur resists Water, Grass, Fighting, Fairy, and Electric moves, but it carries meaningful vulnerabilities to Flying, Fire, Ice, Bug, and Psychic attacks, and Ground-type moves also find purchase against it. In terms of combat strengths, Ivysaur leans toward the special side, with both its special attack and special defence developed to a solid degree, making it effective with moves such as Razor Leaf, Vine Whip, Sleep Powder, and the enduring field technique known as Leech Seed. Trainers typically deploy it as a durable, pressure-applying fighter that can wear down opponents while maintaining its own staying power.

Ivysaur occupies the middle stage of a three-part evolutionary line. It evolves from Bulbasaur, which reaches this form at level sixteen through training and accumulated experience. From Ivysaur, continued growth leads to Venusaur at level thirty-two, at which point the bud blooms into a full, spectacular flower of remarkable size. As one of the original starter Pokémon of the Kanto region, Ivysaur holds a prominent place in both Pokémon research and trainer culture around the world. Its transitional stage is of particular interest to botanists and Pokémon biologists, who study how the symbiotic plant structure on its back integrates more deeply with the creature's own physiology at each developmental step. Ivysaur represents a moment of meaningful and visible change, a Pokémon caught mid-transformation, in which the bond between animal and plant is becoming something far more complex and interdependent than it was at the very beginning.
