ENTRY

Magnemite is the Magnet Pokémon, a dual Electric and Steel type first documented in the original generation of Pokémon discovery. It is an extraordinarily small creature, hovering at roughly the height of a human shin when it rests at its typical floating altitude. Its body is a nearly perfect metallic sphere, pale gray in color, with a single large circular eye set at the center of its face. On either side of its round body protrude two horseshoe magnets, one per flank, giving it a distinctly symmetrical silhouette. Three Phillips-head screws are embedded in its surface one beneath each magnet and a third centered at the top of its head which appear to be structural components rather than ornamental features. Magnemite generates and sustains an anti-gravitational field around itself at all times, keeping it perpetually airborne without visible effort. It moves smoothly through the air, rotating gently as it navigates obstacles, and emits a faint electronic hum that is audible to sensitive ears at close range.

Magnemite is most commonly found in areas associated with industrial activity and rough, rocky terrain. Power plants and electrical facilities attract particularly dense populations, drawn by the abundant electromagnetic energy radiating from exposed cables and generators. In wild settings it also appears along rocky cliffs and in mountain passes where natural magnetite deposits concentrate in the earth below. It has been observed across numerous regions, from the industrial corridors of Kanto to the highland caverns of Sinnoh and beyond. Magnemite tends to appear without warning, drifting into spaces where electromagnetic fields are strongest. It is not strongly social in the wild, but several individuals will sometimes cluster near the same power source, floating passively in a loose, unhurried group. It does not migrate seasonally, as its levitation and its indifference to temperature make it largely unaffected by changes in weather or daylight.

Magnemite sustains itself by absorbing electrical energy directly from its environment. Near power plants it draws current from overhead lines and transformer housings; in natural settings it feeds on static charges built up in storm clouds or generated by friction in rocky terrain. This makes it almost entirely self-sufficient, with no need to hunt or forage in a conventional sense. It discharges electricity through the gap between its two horseshoe magnets, a mechanism it uses both for feeding and for defense. Its temperament toward humans is neither aggressive nor particularly curious; it drifts closer when it senses a strong electromagnetic source, including certain powered electronic devices, and it has been known to follow trainers carrying active equipment for extended distances. Field researchers report that Magnemite communicates through patterns of radio-frequency emissions, producing signals inaudible to the human ear but detectable by radio receivers placed in the vicinity.

In battle, Magnemite is built around an exceptional capacity for special attack power. Despite its tiny frame it carries considerable offensive punch, relying entirely on ranged electric and steel-type techniques rather than physical strikes. Its first ability, Magnet Pull, generates a localized magnetic field so intense that Steel-type opponents find themselves unable to leave the battlefield they cannot flee or be recalled while Magnemite is present, making it a precise trapping tool against metal-bodied foes. Its second ability, Sturdy, reinforces its structure so thoroughly that no single hit, however devastating, can knock it out from full health; even moves that would ordinarily guarantee a one-hit knockout leave it standing with a sliver of vitality intact. Its hidden ability, Analytic, rewards patience when Magnemite acts after its opponent in a given turn, its moves strike with notably greater force. Its Steel typing grants a remarkable array of resistances, but its vulnerability to Ground, Fighting, and Fire moves requires careful positioning. Ground-type moves are especially dangerous, as they also neutralize its electrical capabilities entirely.

Magnemite stands at the base of a three-stage evolutionary line. It evolves into Magneton upon reaching a sufficient level of development through battle experience, at which point three individual Magnemite fuse into a single organism linked by their interlocked magnetic fields. Magneton can then evolve further into Magnezone, an event typically triggered by exposure to a Thunder Stone or by training in areas of exceptionally strong magnetic activity, with the exact condition varying by region. This final form is substantially larger and more commanding, developing a broad disc-like structure and gaining wide mastery over electromagnetic forces. Magnemite itself is of considerable interest to researchers studying the boundary between living organisms and mechanical structures, as its body appears entirely inorganic yet exhibits clear biological behaviors including growth, development, and self-directed movement. Trainers prize it as an early-acquisition Electric type with unusual strategic utility, particularly its capacity to trap and dismantle Steel-type opponents that would otherwise prove difficult to remove from the field.
