ENTRY

Pidgeotto is classified as the Bird Pokémon and belongs to the Normal and Flying types, making its debut in the first generation of games. In terms of build, it stands roughly at the height of a large dog, with a wingspan that extends considerably beyond its body length. Its plumage is predominantly a rich brown across the back and wings, while the chest and underside carry a warm cream coloration. The species is immediately recognizable by its vivid crest, a fan of red-and-yellow striped feathers rising from the crown of the head, and matching red-and-yellow banding on its tail feathers. Its eyes are sharp and alert, framed by dark facial markings that lend Pidgeotto a watchful, intent expression. The overall silhouette is that of a capable mid-sized predatory bird, lean in the body but broad in the wing.

Pidgeotto establishes itself in forested regions, favoring areas with dense canopy cover and open flyways between the trees. It is found throughout temperate and subtropical woodlands, and field researchers consistently note that a single individual may patrol several square kilometers of forest as its personal territory. The species is solitary outside of the breeding season, and two Pidgeotto rarely tolerate overlapping ranges without conflict. It is most active during daylight hours, surveying its territory from high perches in the morning and returning to a favored roost as evening descends. Although it is most commonly associated with Kanto's forests and the wooded outskirts of towns, similar populations have been documented across other forested regions, suggesting the species adapts well to a variety of temperate environments.

Territorial defense is the behavior most closely associated with Pidgeotto. Any creature that crosses into its claimed range risks a swift and forceful attack delivered by the beak, and the species does not hesitate to confront much larger intruders. Despite this aggression toward trespassers, Pidgeotto is not inherently hostile to humans who approach with patience, and many trainers find that a well-raised individual becomes an attentive and loyal companion. The species hunts primarily by diving from altitude to capture small prey, with rodent Pokémon and insects both forming documented parts of its diet. Its wings can produce powerful gusts, used both during aerial hunts and as a deterrent on the ground. Nesting occurs in the highest branches of mature trees, where Pidgeotto constructs reinforced nests of woven plant material. During breeding season, the vivid crest is believed to serve as a visual signal in courtship.

In battle, Pidgeotto makes use of two accessible abilities and one hidden ability. Keen Eye prevents opponents from reducing Pidgeotto's accuracy, neutralizing strategies built around evasion manipulation or accuracy-lowering moves. Tangled Feet, its alternate standard ability, turns confusion into a defensive tool by doubling Pidgeotto's evasion while that status persists, an unusual inversion of a condition that typically harms the afflicted Pokémon. The hidden ability, Big Pecks, prevents opponents from reducing Pidgeotto's Defense, protecting its physical durability over extended encounters. As a Normal and Flying type, Pidgeotto is immune to Ground-type attacks and resists Bug and Grass-type moves, but Electric, Ice, Rock, and Fighting-type moves all exploit its defensive profile. Speed is Pidgeotto's most developed attribute at this stage, allowing it to act before many opponents and maintain pressure. Its physical offense is serviceable but modest, making consistent output more valuable than raw hitting power in a fight.

Pidgeotto sits at the center of a three-stage evolutionary line. It evolves from Pidgey, the small and ubiquitous bird Pokémon found on the earliest routes of many regions, upon reaching a sufficient level of experience in battle, specifically at level eighteen. Further training leads to a second evolution into Pidgeot, the line's fully developed and powerful final form, at level thirty-six, where both speed and offensive capability increase substantially. This position in the middle of the line gives Pidgeotto a clear identity as a species in active development, capable enough for reliable use through the middle portions of a trainer's journey yet clearly not at its ceiling. For researchers, the three-stage line offers a well-documented model of avian Pokémon development across distinct growth phases. Pidgeotto's wide distribution, consistent territorial behavior, and immediately recognizable appearance have made it one of the most studied mid-stage bird Pokémon across multiple generations of field research.
