ENTRY

Teddiursa is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in the second generation, alongside the Johto region. Known as the Little Bear Pokémon, it resembles a small bear cub covered in warm brown fur, standing roughly knee-height to an adult human. Its most defining feature is a pale crescent-shaped marking centered on its forehead, which glows with a warm golden luminescence whenever Teddiursa detects honey nearby. The glow functions almost like a biological compass, brightening in response to the scent and proximity of its most prized resource. Small rounded ears sit atop its head, and its stubby paws are perpetually coated in a thin sticky layer of honey residue, the natural consequence of a daily life built entirely around seeking, collecting, and consuming that sweet substance.

Teddiursa favors mountainous terrain, particularly the wooded slopes and highland meadows where wildflowers support thriving populations of honey-producing insects. It has been documented most frequently in the mountain ranges of Johto, though ecologically similar populations exist elsewhere. The species is predominantly solitary, with each individual claiming a loosely defined territory centered on the most productive foraging areas available. These territories are modest in size, since food sources in well-chosen habitats rarely require long travel. Teddiursa is most active during daylight hours, moving systematically between flowers, tree hollows, and rocky crevices where honey accumulates. During colder months or particularly harsh weather, it retreats into sheltered dens and reduces its activity substantially, though it does not enter a complete hibernation.

The daily routine of a Teddiursa revolves almost entirely around honey. Notably, it does not rely solely on wild sources. It collects pollen from flowering plants, mixes it with moisture drawn from streams and morning dew, and ferments the combination over time in sheltered caches to produce its own personal supply. This homemade honey clings to its paws throughout the day, and Teddiursa licks them almost constantly, both for nutrition and out of habit. The crescent mark on its forehead glows more intensely as a wild honey source draws near, giving the Pokémon a useful natural signal during foraging. Toward humans, Teddiursa is generally calm and curious, often approaching cautiously when it detects a sweet scent on clothing or hands. It communicates through soft vocalizations and tends to retreat rather than confront when threatened, relying on evasion over direct aggression.

In battle, Teddiursa draws primarily on its physical attack, which is its most developed combat attribute. Its speed is low, meaning it typically acts after opposing Pokémon in most encounters, so trainers who use it competitively often plan around absorbing damage before it can respond. Its first standard ability, Pickup, allows it to recover held items discarded or used by opponents during battle, providing genuine utility in certain competitive formats. Its second standard ability, Quick Feet, reverses the usual penalty of major status conditions such as paralysis or poison rather than slowing the Pokémon down, those conditions sharply boost its movement speed, turning a normally sluggish Pokémon into a surprisingly swift threat. Its hidden ability, Honey Gather, occasionally produces honey after battles, a trait more reflective of its character than useful in combat. As a pure Normal type, Teddiursa is immune to Ghost-type moves but holds no resistances, and Fighting-type attacks hit it with full effectiveness.

Teddiursa evolves into Ursaring at level thirty, gaining substantial increases in bulk and physical power. In later generations, Ursaring can undergo a further transformation into Ursaluna by being exposed to a Peat Block during the light of a full moon, giving the evolutionary line a striking third stage rooted in ancient and geological imagery. Teddiursa occupies an early position in the Johto regional Pokédex and holds particular interest for researchers studying foraging behavior and bioluminescent biology in Pokémon. The mechanism behind its glowing crescent mark, and precisely how it detects the presence of honey at a distance, remains an active area of study. For trainers, Teddiursa represents a patient investment that develops into one of the most physically powerful Normal-type Pokémon available in the Johto region.
