Mr. Mime is the Barrier Pokémon, a dual Psychic and Fairy type that first appeared in the original generation of discovered species. It is one of the most distinctly humanoid Pokémon known to researchers, standing at approximately the height of an adult human with a slender, pale pink frame. Its large, broad hands are among its most recognizable features, ending in rounded, stubby fingers that it uses with theatrical precision. Blue spherical protrusions sit atop its head and at each knee and elbow joint, giving it a costumed appearance reminiscent of a stage performer or jester. A white ruff encircles its neck, and its face is smooth and expressive, with wide eyes and a small rounded nose. The overall impression is of a creature shaped by nature to blend into human social environments while simultaneously standing apart from them.
Mr. Mime makes its home in urban and suburban environments, gravitating toward cities, towns, and anywhere human activity is dense and ongoing. It has been documented in both the Kanto and Kalos regions, as well as scattered populations in other developed areas across the world. It does not migrate seasonally and tends to establish a territory within a single neighborhood or district, often returning to the same street corners or plazas where it has previously performed. It is typically solitary, rarely gathering in groups, though it shows no territorial aggression toward humans. It is active during daylight hours, preferring the presence of an audience, and tends to seek sheltered spots at night once the crowds have thinned.
Mr. Mime's most defining behavior is its elaborate mime performance. It combines precise hand gestures with psychic energy to solidify invisible walls and barriers, making the air itself rigid enough to interact with physically. Observers who watch long enough may find themselves believing completely in the objects and surfaces Mr. Mime creates, a phenomenon researchers attribute to a mild psychic suggestion woven into the performance. When its routine is interrupted, Mr. Mime abandons its composed demeanor at once and strikes the offender with its broad, flat hands, a response that field researchers consistently describe as disproportionately forceful for a creature that otherwise appears gentle. It is broadly omnivorous and subsists largely on foods common to the human settlements it inhabits. Toward trainers and people it tends to be cooperative once trust is established, though it shows a clear preference for patient, attentive companions who will watch it perform without interruption.
In battle, Mr. Mime excels as a special attacker and a resilient special wall. Its psychic abilities translate into powerful special moves, and its special defense in particular is exceptional, allowing it to absorb a remarkable amount of damage from special-based attacks. Its speed is solid enough to act before many opponents. Its first ability, Soundproof, renders it completely immune to sound-based moves, neutralizing techniques like Boomburst or Hyper Voice that would otherwise deal significant damage. Its second ability, Filter, reduces the damage it takes from attacks that exploit its type weaknesses, making it meaningfully sturdier against what would normally be devastating hits. Its hidden ability, Technician, amplifies the power of its lower-strength moves, broadening the range of techniques it can use effectively. Its Psychic and Fairy dual typing gives it strong offensive tools against Fighting, Dragon, and Dark opponents, but leaves it exposed to Bug, Ghost, Dark, Poison, and Steel type attacks. Its physical defense and overall endurance are limited, so opponents who can reach it with physical strikes or consistently exploit its type vulnerabilities will hold a clear advantage.
Mr. Mime occupies a notable position in its evolutionary line as the central and most widely recognized stage. It develops from Mime Jr., a smaller and younger form introduced in the fourth generation of known Pokémon, which evolves into Mr. Mime upon leveling up while it knows the move Mimic, an elegant evolutionary requirement that mirrors the species identity directly. In the Galar region, a distinct regional form exists that combines an Ice typing alongside Psychic, and this variant can develop further into Mr. Rime, extending the line to three stages. The standard form of Mr. Mime, however, remains one of the most studied humanoid Pokémon in the world, valued by researchers for the questions it raises about the boundary between psychic ability and performance. Trainers prize it for its considerable special resilience and its unusual combat immunities, while general audiences have long been captivated by the eerie conviction it brings to its mime displays.
