ENTRY

Pichu is classified as the Tiny Mouse Pokémon and belongs to the Baby Pokémon category, a small but spirited creature introduced to the world in the second generation of Pokémon discovery. It is a pure Electric-type, with no secondary typing, and its most immediately recognizable feature is its compact, rounded body covered in bright yellow fur. Pichu stands quite small, roughly the height of a loaf of bread, and would rest comfortably in the palm of an adult human hand. Its oversized ears are tipped with dark brown at their points and sit wide atop its round head, giving it a perpetually alert expression. Two small, rosy patches mark each side of its face; these are the electrical pouches that hold the charge Pichu generates, though it has not yet mastered the art of containing that energy reliably. A short, stubby tail flicks behind it as it moves, adding to the impression of constant restless energy.

Pichu is found primarily in forested environments where thunderstorms are frequent, as the electrical activity of these storms provides stimulation and, to some extent, supplemental charge. Reports from field researchers place Pichu populations in lush, temperate forests with dense undergrowth, particularly in areas of Johto and other regions that share a similar climate. Pichu do not typically live alone; they gather in small familial groups, often nestled in the hollows of large trees or beneath dense root systems where they are shielded from rain and larger predators. The species appears to be most active during the cooler hours of early morning and late afternoon, when temperatures ease and the air carries the faint static charge that these Pokémon find stimulating. Population density tends to be higher in areas prone to electrical storms, and individual Pichu rarely venture far from their birth group during the first months of life.

In daily life, Pichu subsists on berries and plant matter found within its forest home, nibbling at whatever is available near its shelter rather than ranging widely for food. The most distinctive behavioral trait of this species is its complete inability to control the electricity it generates. When a Pichu becomes excited, frightened, or simply amused, it involuntarily releases small jolts of electrical energy, sometimes startling itself in the process, which only compounds the discharge. Groups of Pichu communicate in part by pressing their cheek pouches together, transferring small amounts of electricity between individuals in what researchers believe is both a form of bonding and a way of testing how much charge each has accumulated. Pichu are shy around strangers but warm quickly to familiar trainers who approach them with patience and calm.

In battle, Pichu is not a powerhouse by any measure, but its Electric typing grants it a selective and useful resistance to Flying and Steel-type moves, while its only weakness lies against Ground-type attacks, which completely neutralize its electrical capabilities. Its standard ability, Static, makes physical contact with Pichu a risky proposition for opponents, as any Pokémon that strikes it directly has a meaningful chance of being left paralyzed. The hidden ability, Lightning Rod, works differently; it draws all single-target Electric-type attacks toward Pichu, absorbing them entirely and converting that energy into a boost to its special attacking power. Pichu is quick on its feet relative to its tiny size, though its overall defenses and offensive output are modest, and it is not well suited for prolonged confrontations. It functions best as an early disruptor or as a transitional member of a team being developed toward a stronger form.

Pichu occupies the base stage of one of the most iconic evolutionary lines in the Pokémon world. It does not evolve from any prior form, but with sufficient care, bonding, and trust from its trainer, a process reflected in high friendship, it evolves into Pikachu, the form that carries the line's fame. Pikachu in turn evolves into Raichu through exposure to a Thunder Stone. Pichu was introduced precisely to give this beloved line a developmental origin, and its existence has enriched the understanding of how the line's electrical biology first emerges. Researchers and trainers alike find Pichu valuable for what it reveals about the early stages of bioelectrical development in Pokémon, and its appeal as a companion has made it one of the more sought-after baby Pokémon among those who wish to raise a Raichu line from its very first breath.
