ENTRY

Skarmory is classified as the Armor Bird Pokémon, a dual Steel and Flying type introduced in the second generation of games, originating in the Johto region. Standing roughly as tall as an adult human, with a broad and imposing wingspan, Skarmory presents an unmistakable silhouette against an open sky. Its body is encased in naturally grown metallic gray armor that covers the torso, head, and leading edges of the wings, while the wing feathers themselves are composed of rigid, blade-like steel sharp enough to cut cleanly through a variety of materials. Despite the heavy appearance of this plating, the wings are actually hollow inside, a biological adaptation that keeps the bird aloft without sacrificing its considerable protective qualities. A crest of pointed gray feathers crowns its narrow, angular head, and its long beak is equally hard, giving the entire creature the appearance of a living suit of medieval armor shaped into avian form.

Skarmory makes its home in rough, elevated terrain, favoring steep mountain ranges, rocky cliffs, and jagged outcroppings that provide both shelter and commanding vantage points over wide stretches of land below. It is found most reliably in arid highland regions where sparse vegetation allows it to survey the terrain during long, unhurried patrol flights. The species tends toward solitary living outside of the breeding season, with individual birds claiming and defending sizable territories along ridge lines and cliff faces. Population density is generally low, as each bird requires an expansive hunting range to sustain itself. Skarmory is not strongly migratory, preferring to remain within its established territory year-round, though it will range farther during periods of food scarcity. The bird is most active during daylight hours, making hunting runs in the late afternoon and retiring to high ledges once darkness settles over the mountains.

Skarmory is a carnivore that hunts by dropping from considerable height, using its bladed wing feathers to incapacitate prey before finishing them with its beak. It shows a preference for rocky gullies and narrow canyons where small prey animals have little cover to retreat to. Nesting behavior is particularly distinctive: Skarmory constructs its nest inside dense, thorny bushes, appearing entirely indifferent to the thorns because its armor deflects them without difficulty, while those same sharp branches serve as an effective deterrent against predators lacking comparable protection. The bladed feathers are shed and regrown once per year, and the discarded feathers are widely sought after by trainers and craftspeople for their exceptional sharpness and durability. In temperament the species is proud and territorial, greeting unfamiliar humans with wariness, though individuals raised in close contact with people from an early age can develop into steadfast and reliable partners.

In battle, Skarmory draws on one of two standard abilities. Keen Eye prevents opponents from lowering its accuracy through moves or field effects, ensuring that Skarmory's own attacks connect as reliably as its aim allows. Sturdy provides a crucial defensive safeguard, preventing Skarmory from being knocked out in a single strike when it enters a fight at full health, and also making it immune to the class of moves specifically designed to force an instant knockout. A hidden ability known as Weak Armor operates on a very different principle: each physical blow that lands chips away at Skarmory's Defense while simultaneously increasing its speed, a trade that carries obvious risk given that physical resilience is precisely what this Pokémon is most prized for. The Steel and Flying typing grants Skarmory a remarkable number of resistances, though it must account carefully for Fire, Fighting, Ground, Rock, Electric, and Ice. With a defense stat that ranks among the very highest in the known Pokédex, Skarmory functions as an outstanding physical wall, absorbing repeated strikes that would quickly overwhelm nearly any other species, while its capacity to deal damage, especially through special attacks, is considerably more limited.

Skarmory stands alone in its evolutionary line, with no pre-evolutionary form and no further stage to develop into, placing it among a select group of single-stage Pokémon whose full biological complexity is present from the very start. That independence has not diminished its reputation in the slightest; Skarmory has long been regarded as one of the most dependable defensive anchors in competitive battling, its combination of typing and physical resilience making it exceptionally difficult to displace from the role of physical wall. Researchers studying materials science and structural biology have found the hollow yet rigid architecture of its feathers to be a compelling model for lightweight, high-strength design. For trainers who need a presence on their team that can absorb punishment, control the rhythm of a long match, and remain standing when other Pokémon have long since been defeated, Skarmory stands among the finest choices the Johto region has ever produced.
